Whether you are a die-hard fan of Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules or simply are exploring West Hollywood, SUR Restaurant & Lounge is likely on your bucket list. As of 2026, the SUR experience has evolved. With the “new generation” cast of Vanderpump Rules Season 12 now roaming the floor and new signature cocktails on the menu, there is a lot to know before you make your reservation. Here is the ultimate guide to visiting SUR in 2026.

My Real Life Visit to SUR
I’ve been a Vanderpump Rules fan for years, so I wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to visit filming locations during my trip to West Hollywood. I did some research and put together a full DIY walking tour of the most iconic filming locations— which included SUR, RIP Pump, TomTom, Something About Her and Hotel Ziggy.
Walking into SUR after years of seeing it on my TV screen was a total trip. It definitely felt much smaller that I realized, with instant memories of scenes in every corner. I had my pro camera with me and our waiter was very sweet and let me take photos all over the entire restaurant.
I had strategically booked the first slot of the evening with a 5pm reservation slot so that I could get plenty of daylight and the least amount of people in my photos. My plan worked out perfectly and I was able to freely photograph all the rooms and bars.
I even snuck out to the famous SUR back alley, where we know a lot of the drama goes down. And it looked exactly the same in person!

The History of SUR
Before it was the backdrop for reality TV’s most famous scandals, SUR was a quiet, high-end neighborhood spot. Established in 1998 by Guillermo Zapata and later joined by his wife Nathalie, the restaurant hit its stride in 2005 when they partnered with Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd.
Lisa’s signature “sexy, unique” touch transformed the space from a simple eatery into a sprawling, multi-room oasis. The design is famously eclectic—mixing industrial zinc tables with velvet stools, oversized Buddha statues, and crystal chandeliers in cages. Even if you aren’t there for the drama, the decor alone is worth the trip.
When Vanderpump Rules debuted, SUR quickly became the heart of the show—hosting iconic fights, hookups, friendships, and unforgettable reality TV moments. Today, it remains one of the most recognizable restaurants in Los Angeles thanks to its pop culture legacy.

Where Is SUR Located?
SUR is located at 606–614 North Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood, right in the middle of one of LA’s most popular nightlife areas . This location is key to its appeal. You’re not just going to dinner—you’re stepping into a hotspot surrounded by trendy bars, celebrity sightings, and LGBTQ+ nightlife culture.

What It’s Like to Visit SUR
Do you remember the scene in an early season when Lisa asks server Faith where table 7 is? And Faith was struggling to remember. Well, that’s because SUR is actually huge on the inside! There’s so many rooms and it feels like a bit of a maze as you walk through.
SUR is broken up into several distinct areas, each offering a completely different vibe depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re celebrating with a large group or a birthday, the Main Dining Room is the place to be for that loud, high-ceiling energy, whereas The Lounge offers a dimmer, sexier, velvet-heavy atmosphere perfect for pre-night-out drinks and appetizers.
For something a bit more romantic or a slightly quieter meal, you’ll want to request a table in the open-air Garden with all its lush greenery; otherwise, head straight to The Bar—the true hub of the action—especially if you’re a solo traveler or a fan hoping to eavesdrop on the latest staff gossip.

Paying Homage to the Original VPR Cast
One of the most nostalgic parts of visiting SUR is realizing you’re standing in the exact place where the original cast of Vanderpump Rules built their stories—and honestly, their fame.
Long before the show evolved, SUR was the backdrop for some of the most iconic reality TV moments of the 2010s. This is where friendships unraveled, relationships began (and ended dramatically), and where viewers were first introduced to unforgettable personalities like Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Kristen Doute, Scheana Shay, Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, James Kennedy and Katie Maloney.
As a fan, it’s impossible not to mentally replay scenes while you’re there. You might find yourself thinking, “This is the room where Lisa fired Kristen!” Even the bar area feels familiar, especially knowing it was once run by the Toms before they branched out to their own ventures.
Paying homage doesn’t mean the cast is still there—but their presence lingers in the atmosphere. It’s like you can still hear the music from DJ James’s “See You Next Tuesday” recurring DJ night at SUR!

End of An Era with Scandoval
The “Scandoval” of 2023 was the beginning of the end for the original Vanderpump Rules cast, permanently shattering the decade-long foundation of the original cast’s friendships. This betrayal didn’t just end the ten-year relationship between Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval; it effectively closed the chapter on the “OG” era of SUR.
If you’ve been living under a rock and didn’t hear the news that broke the internet, “Scandoval” refers to the explosive revelation that long-time cast member Tom Sandoval had been having a secret, months-long affair with Raquel Leviss behind the back of his girlfriend of nine years, Ariana.

The Most Famous Vanderpump Rules Scenes Filmed at SUR
Scheana Shay vs. Brandi Glanville: The Shift That Ended Early
In the very first episode of the series, the worlds of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules collided in a way that set the stage for years of tension.
- The Conflict: Brandi Glanville arrived at SUR for a meal with friends, unaware (or perhaps fully aware) that Scheana Shay was working the floor. This was the first time the two women were in the same room since the public revelation of Scheana’s years-long affair with Brandi’s then-husband, Eddie Cibrian.
- The Dismissal: To maintain the peace of the restaurant and protect both women from a public meltdown, Lisa Vanderpump stepped in. She made the executive decision to send Scheana home mid-shift.
Kristen’s Final Dismissal
You can’t talk about SUR without talking about the moment Lisa Vanderpump finally had enough.
- The Scene: After Kristen told a manager to “suck a d***” in front of patrons, Lisa fired her in a room with closed doors (and you better believe I took plenty of photos of this room! Keep scrolling to see them).
- The Impact: It was a rare moment where the professional stakes of the restaurant actually collided with the personal toxicity of the staff, ending Kristen’s tenure as a SUR server for good.
The Brawl at Scheana’s Engagement Party
The Season 2 finale delivered one of the most explosive physical altercations in the show’s history, proving that even a celebration of love couldn’t keep the SUR crew from descending into chaos.
- The Conflict: After weeks of rumors and denials, Jax Taylor finally admitted to Tom Sandoval that he had indeed slept with Kristen Doute (Sandoval’s girlfriend at the time) on his couch while Sandoval was asleep in the other room.
- The Scene: The group had gathered at SUR to celebrate Scheana Shay’s engagement to Mike Shay. In the middle of the party, the tension boiled over. Sandoval confronted Jax near the lounge area, and upon hearing the truth, he delivered a bloody punch to Jax’s forehead.
Tom and Ariana’s Relationship Moments
While SUR is known for drama, it’s also where real relationships developed. Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix shared some of their earliest moments together here. From subtle flirtation behind the bar to more serious conversations about their future, SUR served as the foundation for one of the show’s most central relationships.

Does the Cast of Vanderpump Rules Season 12 Actually Work at SUR?
Yes, they do!
For years, fans visited hoping to see Jax Taylor or Tom Sandoval behind the bar or Stassi Schroeder and Scheana Shay taking orders, but those days are long gone. The “OGs” have moved on, leaving room for the new cast to step in front of the camera.
My friend and I visited in April 2026 on a Friday evening, and it was not during production filming. And we actually saw Natalie twice in one day! First we saw her grabbing a sandwich at Something About Her at lunch time, and then again that evening behind the bar at SUR. So yes, they do actually work there!
Do you only see the cast when they’re filming?
If you visit during a filming window, keep your eyes peeled for the full lineup of the current team:
- Lisa Vanderpump: The Matriarch and Owner. While she’s often busy with her global empire, Lisa still glides through the dining room to ensure every candle is lit and every “Sexy Unique” detail is in place.
- Demy Selem: The SUR Manager. Demy is the glue holding the chaos together, expertly navigating the bridge between floor management and reality TV drama.
- Natalie Maguire: The Lead Bartender and Bar Manager. If you want a drink made with clinical precision, Natalie is the one running the show behind the wood.
- Chris Hahn & Jason Cohen: The Bartenders. This duo handles the heavy lifting at the main bar.
- Marcus Johnson: A long-term staff member who provides the veteran perspective.
- Angelica Jensen: The newest addition to the SUR family. As the “New Girl,” Angelica is currently finding her footing (and her voice) amidst the established group.
- Kim Suarez: Known for her fiery personality, Kim is a central figure in the restaurant’s current social web.
- Venus Binkley, Shayne Davis, & Audrey Lingle: These three are the quintessential SUR staffers. Audrey is my personal favorite cast member from all the new crew!
Pro Tip: While the staff are now professional personalities, they are still working. Be respectful—don’t interrupt a busy server mid-pour for a selfie. Wait for a natural break or check the bar area after their shift.

Filming Days at SUR: What to Expect (The Good, The Chaotic & The Rules)
There’s a very real chance you’ll walk into SUR and immediately notice:
- Professional cameras and lighting rigs set up around the restaurant
- Producers, sound crew, and assistants moving quickly through the space
- Sections of the restaurant that look staged or partially blocked off
- Cast members dressed to the nines, often redoing entrances or conversations
Sometimes you’ll even witness scenes being filmed multiple times—which can be fascinating if you’ve never seen reality TV production in person. And yes, spotting Lisa Vanderpump in real life is every bit as glamorous as you’d expect.

When Does Filming Start at SUR?
OG Cast Filming Window
Before the reboot, the show historically captured the “heat of the summer” in West Hollywood.
- May through August: This was the standard window for nearly a decade. It was timed to include major SUR events like the Gay Pride Parade in June, which frequently served as a backdrop for some of the show’s biggest mid-season blowouts.
What to Expect for Season 13
Bravo typically waits until a current season finishes airing its reunions before officially confirming the next filming start date. Since the Season 12 reunion just finished airing in March 2026, cameras are expected to pick back up in late Spring or early Summer 2026 to follow the new cast’s latest ventures.
Note: If you’re planning to visit SUR specifically to catch filming, look for “Notice of Filming” signs posted near the entrance or in the back alley. When cameras are active, the restaurant typically stays open to the public, though you may be asked to sign a release form to dine there during production hours.

The Restrictions You Need to Know
While filming days are exciting, they do come with limitations that can affect your visit.
No Photos or Videos (Sometimes Strictly Enforced)
If filming is actively happening, you may be asked:
- Not to take photos or videos
- To put your phone away during certain scenes
- To avoid pointing your camera toward cast or crew
Staff and production teams take this seriously to prevent spoilers and protect the show’s content.
Limited Seating Areas
Parts of SUR—especially the iconic garden patio or main dining room—may be:
- Reserved for filming only
- Temporarily closed to guests
- Rearranged for camera angles
Even with a reservation, you might not get your preferred seating if production is using that space.
Longer Wait Times
Filming can slow everything down.
Expect:
- Delays in being seated
- Slower food and drink service
- Pauses while scenes are being recorded
In some cases, servers may even disappear briefly because they’re part of the cast or assisting with filming logistics.
You Might Be Asked to Stay Quiet
During active filming, production may ask nearby tables to:
- Lower their voices
- Pause conversations
- Avoid reacting loudly
It can feel a little strange at first, especially in such a lively environment—but it’s necessary for clean audio.
You Could End Up on Camera
Here’s the fun twist: you might accidentally become part of the show.
If you’re seated near filming:
- You could appear in the background
- Your table might be repositioned
- You may be asked to sign a release form
It’s subtle, but for fans, it’s a pretty unforgettable moment.

Is It Worth Visiting During Filming?
It depends on your expectations.
Go During Filming If You Want:
- A behind-the-scenes look at reality TV
- A chance to see cast members in action
- A high-energy, “this is so LA” experience
Avoid Filming Days If You Prefer:
- A relaxed, uninterrupted dinner
- Faster service
- Full access to all seating areas
Pro Tips for Navigating Filming Days
- Call ahead and ask if filming is scheduled (staff won’t always confirm, but it’s worth trying)
- Be flexible with seating and timing
- Arrive early to reduce wait times
- Lean into the experience—this is part of what makes SUR iconic

Booking Reservations at SUR – Must Read!
If you’re planning to visit the iconic SUR, you’ll want to secure a table in advance. While the restaurant is famous for its reality TV drama, it remains a high-volume West Hollywood establishment that requires a bit of planning.
How to Book
The most reliable way to book a table is through OpenTable.
- Plan Ahead: Weekend dinner slots and “Vanderpump-heavy” nights (like those during filming season) tend to fill up fast.
- Large Groups: If you’re visiting with a larger party for a celebration, it’s best to book at least 2–3 weeks in advance.
The Credit Card Guarantee
To manage the high demand and the “no-show” factor often associated with celebrity-linked restaurants, SUR requires a credit card to hold your reservation.
- Cancellation Policy: When booking via OpenTable, you must enter your card details to secure the spot.
- The Fee: If you fail to show up or do not cancel within the restaurant’s specified window (typically 24 hours), a per-person “No-Show” fee will be charged to the card on file.
Pro-Tips for the Best Experience
- Request a Section: While not guaranteed, fans often put “Vanderpump Rules fan” or requests for specific areas—like the Lounge or the Gallery—in the OpenTable notes.
- The Bar is First-Come: If you can’t snag a reservation, the main bar is often open for walk-ins. You might not get a full meal, but you can certainly grab a Goat Cheese Ball and a Pumptini.
- Happy Hour: If you want the vibe without the full dinner commitment, check for Happy Hour times (usually 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM), which is a great way to experience the decor and a cocktail before the dinner rush begins.

What to Wear to Brunch, Happy Hour or Dinner at SUR
Dressing for SUR is all about finding the balance between “West Hollywood Chic” and the restaurant’s own romantic aesthetic. Since the venue transitions from a sun-drenched lounge in the afternoon to a moody, candlelit club-staurant at night, your outfit choice should reflect the time of day.
Daytime & Brunch: Casual-Chic
Early in the day, the vibe at SUR is significantly more relaxed. While you’ll still see people dressed up for photos, the California casual look fits in perfectly here.
- The Vibe: Elevated casual. Think “brunch with friends” rather than “night on the town.”
- For Women: A floral sundress, high-waisted jeans with a nice blouse, or even a trendy matching set. Flat sandals or clean white sneakers are perfectly acceptable for daytime.
- For Men: A well-fitted polo, a short-sleeve button-down, or a premium T-shirt paired with chinos or nice denim.
Dinner & Late Night: Sexy Glamour
As the sun goes down and the pink lighting takes over, the dress code shifts towards glam vibes. This is when the West Hollywood crowd comes out to play.
- The Vibe: Dress to impress. This is the time to bring out that little black dress, heels, and sparkles.
- For Women: Cocktail dresses, silk slip dresses, or tailored jumpsuits. If you want to channel your inner “Vanderpump” cast member, this is the time for heels and a full glam look.
- For Men: A sharp button-down (tucked or untucked), dark denim or trousers, and loafers or dress shoes. A blazer is a great addition if you’re looking to elevate the look for a special occasion.
A Few “SUR” Style Rules
- The “No-Go” List: While daytime is casual, avoid gym wear, flip-flops, or overly distressed clothing. Even at 1:00 PM, SUR maintains a certain level of “lounge” sophistication.
- The Photo Op: Remember that SUR is filled with mirrors and iconic backdrops (like the giant Buddha statue or the back alley). Even for a casual brunch, wear something you’ll feel confident in for the inevitable Instagram or TikTok post!
- Layers are Key: The restaurant has several distinct areas—some are open-air patios and others are heavily air-conditioned lounges. Bringing a light jacket or blazer ensures you’re comfortable no matter where you’re seated.

What to Order at SUR
You cannot visit SUR without ordering the Goat Cheese Balls. If you’re a true fan of the show, you’ve heard Stassi rave about these! It is practically a legal requirement to try them during a visit, and I can testify that they are in fact amazing!
The Food
- The Famous Goat Cheese Balls: Served with mango sauce and cucumber salad. They are crispy, creamy, and still live up to the hype.
- Truffle Pasta: A decadent fan favorite that is surprisingly filling.
- Crispy Salmon: A lighter, sophisticated option that pairs perfectly with the garden atmosphere.
The Cocktails
Expect plenty of pink and plenty of garnish.
- The Pumptini: A vodka and raspberry purée staple that remains a bestseller. I took a few sips of my BFFs Pumptini and it’s very strong! You can definitely get tipsy from these.
- The Big Pinky: A refreshing vodka and mint concoction that is arguably the most Instagrammable drink on the menu.
- The LVP Rosé: If cocktails aren’t your speed, you can’t go wrong with a chilled glass of Lisa’s signature wine.

Are the Food and Drinks Expensive at SUR?
Yup, it’s very pricey! Dining at SUR comes with a price tag that reflects its West Hollywood status and reality TV fame. My friend and I only ordered a round of drinks and the famous goat cheese balls, yet our totalled over $80. Between the $22 signature cocktails and the $18 appetizers, the bill adds up fast! It’s definitely not a budget-friendly outing, but for a fan, that receipt almost feels like a souvenir for getting to spend an hour on the set of my favorite show.

Note: Parking in a Nightmare in West Hollywood
Parking in West Hollywood is a total nightmare, and the area around SUR is no exception. The valet is crazy expensive (I don’t know the exact price because I didn’t even try it). Instead, I had my husband drop us off right at the entrance, which saved us from circling the block for an hour.
After our drinks and goat cheese balls, we skipped the rideshare and just walked back to Hotel Ziggy. It’s a pretty easy walk down Sunset, and you’ll actually walk past Something About Her, the old Pump and TomTon on your way!
I highly recommend taking an Uber or Lyft, or booking a hotel within walking distance to all the West Hollywood hot spots.

Can You Walk to the Infamous SUR Back Alley?
Yep, you can absolutely walk to the infamous SUR back alley! In fact, visiting the alley has become such a popular rite of passage for fans that the restaurant has leaned into it.
Finding the Alley
The alley is located directly behind the restaurant at 606 N. Robertson Blvd.
- Public Access: It is a public right-of-way, so you don’t need to be a customer to walk through it.
- The “VPR” Upgrade: Realizing its status as a filming landmark, Lisa Vanderpump actually gave the alley a bit of a facelift. It’s no longer just a place for trash bins and cigarette breaks; there is often a branded SUR car parked there, and the area is kept relatively clean for the hundreds of fans who stop by for photos.

Nearby Vanderpump Rules Locations
West Hollywood is essentially the capital of the “Vanderpump Universe,” with several iconic locations within walking distance of one another.
Something About Her
Something About Her is the most recent addition to the neighborhood, located just a few doors down from SUR. Co-owned by Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix, it offers a boutique sandwich experience with a highly curated, feminine aesthetic. It has become a must-visit for fans!
TomTom
TomTom Restaurant & Bar is the visually stunning collaboration between Lisa Vanderpump and “The Toms” (Schwartz and Sandoval). Known for its clockwork-themed old-world decor and industrial-chic bar, it’s a major filming hub for scenes.
Pump
Fans of PUMP Restaurant were heartbroken when the iconic Lisa Vanderpump hotspot officially closed in 2023 after more than a decade. It has now been replaced with gay bar Roosterfish, and it’s located right up the block from SUR.
The Abbey
The Abbey Food & Bar in WeHo is a world-renowned gay bar, and is also right up the street from SUR. Cast members, specifically Tom Sandoval and Raquel Leviss, were spotted filming scenes and hanging out at The Abbey during the events leading up to the “Scandoval” cheating scandal in Season 10.
Vanderpump Dogs
Vanderpump Dogs is the rescue center founded by Lisa Vanderpump. While it’s primarily an adoption and grooming center, it was the focal point of the “Puppygate” drama and continues to be a favorite stop for fans.
Schwartz & Sandy’s Lounge
Fans of the show remember very clearly all the drama that came with opening the restaurant Schwartz & Sandy’s. It’s now closed down, but it was once located slightly further away in the Franklin Village area. This was the independent project launched by Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval, and was a central storyline throughout Seasons 9 and 10.

In Conclusion: Is Visiting SUR Actually Worth the Hype?
If you go to SUR expecting a quiet, Michelin-star dining experience, you’ve missed the point. You go to SUR for the “pinch me” moment. You go for the chance to see your favorite reality TV star in the flesh, the high-energy vibes, and the chance to walk through the same back alley where every major TV breakup of the last decade has occurred.
The food is genuinely good (yet very expensive!), the drinks are strong, and the service was actually really great and much more professional than the TV edits might suggest.
